EARTH DAY PLAYS!
PLAY #1: TRASH TALK - A PLAY ABOUT WASTE
This original adaptation is based upon the play Landfill Laments (written by Wendie Willson for CPP with adaptation written by Chuck Balgenorth). With the help of landfill items come to life, Dr Detritus and his colleagues come to understand the bad things that result from being a "throw-away-society" unwilling to embrace the 3 Rs (REDUCE REUSE, RECYCLE). With the health of our water supply and our land at stake, this band of determined scientists waste no time temporarily blocking the destruction that the Contamination Blob would reak. Will their efforts to teach our community the value and importance of the 3Rs stick? Will you help?
PLAY #2 - THE WATER PLAY
This original play was written by Kamala Boeck of the Theatre Department at California State University, Bakersfield. CPP is honored to be one of the first companies to produce this play and are grateful to our own Theatre Club Instructor, Susannah Vera, for getting us the performance rights. With a blend of "ancient myth" storytelling, vibrant dance + choreographed pantomime movement, and a rich array of human and animal characters, this cautionary tale reflects on the hazards of taking water as an always-available-resource for granted. Audiences of all ages will come to understand the importance of control and balance in our use of this critical resource.
